Priorities of Policy of Armenia\'s Health Care System Discussed

On September 27, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Health Care and Social Affairs Hakob Hakobyan met with the UN Special Rapporteur Dainius Pūras. The Committee members Margarit Yesayan, Jemma Baghdasaryan, Marina Margaryan and Hakob Nazaryan attended the meeting.

The theme on The Right of Everyone to the Enjoyment of the Highest Attainable Standard of Physical and Mental Health was discussed.

Dainius Pūras has noted that the goal of his mission is to study the steps being taken in the system of Armenia's health care and as a Special Rapporteur to present a report to the UN Human Rights Committee based on the results of the visit.

Hakob Hakobyan has introduced the priorities of the health care system policy, noting that by passing into the parliamentary system of government and, according to the new requirements of the Constitution, our country revises the policy of the health care system, which is now in the phase of elaboration. He particularly touched upon problems concerning the legislative regulation of the sphere. At the guest's request the Committee Chair also presented the models of medical aid organisation and financing, especially detailing the problems of the primary health care in the professional field.

The sides highlighted the purposeful application of the social support programmes, the rise of the public trust towards the primary health care in the professional field.

The interlocutors also exchanged thoughts on the care of the patients with mental health problems and provision of social alternative service, events aimed against HIV/AIDS, the implementation of palliative medical aid, poverty reduction strategic programme and other issues.
